Another hit and run along NH-2 lands youth in hospital

The incident happened at around 5:45 pm at Daili village along the Imphal-Dimapur road when a White Maruti van hit the youth and sped off towards Imphal side.

In yet another hit-and-run case which took place on Monday afternoon along the National Highway 2 in Daili village, a youth from the village landed in hospital in a critical condition.

The incident happened at around 5:45 pm at Daili village along the Imphal-Dimapur road when a White Maruti van hit the youth and sped off towards Imphal side.

According to one of the victim’s friends who was with him, no other vehicles were there on the road when the van coming down from Senapati side hit his friend.

He said, “I along with two of our friends was walking down the road outside the marking line before my friend was hit. The van drove away at high speed following the incident and we immediately informed Kangpokpi police and rushed the injured victim to District Hospital Kangpokpi.”

The injured has been identified as Kaihrii, 24, son of A Pfokrelo of Daili village. His father is a police personnel posted at Kangpokpi police station.

The doctors at District Hospital Kangpokpi referred the injured victim to Imphal, owing to his critical condition.

Meanwhile, Daili Village Authority, Daili Women Society, Daili Your Club and Daili Students' Union appealed to the authority concerned to find out the vehicle and book the van driver at the earliest.

The Kangpokpi Youth Union also extended solidarity and cooperation towards the Daili bodies and urged the authorities concerned to initiate all possible means to find out the vehicle and nab the driver so as to take appropriate action.

It also said that such hit and run cases have been increasing tremendously along the highway since the past months and it will keep increasing day by day unless one of the accused has been arrested and appropriate action initiated.
