Vision Creative School of Science declared ‘drug-free school’
People who are already a victim of drug addiction need to be sent to hospital and rehabilitation centres for detoxification, NMBCC member Yumnam Laksman Singh said.
Targeting the youths and students in the school for primary prevention of drug abuse and alcoholism, massive awareness and sensitisation programmes were held at the multipurpose hall of Vision Creative School of Science, Thoubal Okram on Sunday.
The programme was attended by Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee (NMBCC) member, Yumnam Laksman Singh; principal of the school, T Nandalal Meitel; Development for Women Programme Centre secretary, AK Nandarani Devi; and Mathematics lecturer, Kesho Singh as presidium members.
During the programme, NMBCC member Yumnam Laksman Singh categorically pointed out the efforts made by Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India to make Thoubal district free from intoxication. He also said that awareness and education on drug abuse are highly necessary to understand the harmful effects of substance abuse. People who are already a victim of drug addiction need to be sent to hospital and rehabilitation centres for detoxification, counselling and rehabilitation process, he added.
Considering the consequent effect of the awareness campaign, the principal declared the Vision Creative School of Science as a ‘drug-free school’ in presence of the people on the dais with immediate effect. More than 175 students, teachers and non-teaching staffs participated in the awareness programme.
The principal also extended gratitude to NMBCC, Thoubal for organising the programme in the best interest of the teachers, non-teaching staffs and the students at large. He expressed his desire to organise the programme in the school regularly.
