Release 6-month pregnant woman immediately, MHRC tells DGP

The MHRC registered a complaint filed by Nongmaithem Indradumon, Nachou Kha Leikai, Bishnupur who is the husband of Flora Devi who was arrested by Bishnupur police.

The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on Tuesday directed DGP Manipur to instruct SP Bishnupur district to release a six-month pregnant woman immediately, if the allegation levelled on the complaint is found true.

The MHRC registered a complaint filed by Nongmaithem Indradumon, Nachou Kha Leikai, Bishnupur who is the husband of Flora Devi who was arrested by Bishnupur police.

The husband has complained against the illegal arrest and detention of his wife who is six months pregnant and who has been under medication.

Bishnupur police allegedly arrested his wife "without any valid reason" with no memo at the time of arrest. The husband stated when he inquired about the reason of the arrest, the Bishnupur police informed that his wife would not be released if he failed to produce N Mani, his cousin and a neighbour.

MHRC has also directed DGP Manipur to submit a detailed report on the case before July 7.
