Woman killed in road mishap in Bishnupur

The woman was allegedly hit by a Tata DI truck bearing registration number MN02G 2646 which was travelling from Bishnupur to Imphal.

A woman died immediately in a road mishap that took place at Keinou Bazar under Bishnupur Police Station at around 12:30 pm on Wednesday. 

The woman was allegedly hit by a Tata DI truck bearing registration number MN02G 2646 which was travelling from Bishnupur to Imphal. She succumbed to her injury before she receive medical treatment.

The deceased has been identified as Chanthoi Hulang, 61, wife of Wanghring Hulang of Khudam village Beru Khudam, Chandel. She was born in Wainem Kabui village, Kangpokpi, and was currently residing in a rented facility at Sanjenthong.

Sources said that the unfortunate incident took place when Chanthoi was hit by the rear tyre of the DI truck while she was trying to cross the road. She was dragged for about 40 to 50 feet and died instantaneously, while in the meantime the drivers of the DI truck fled the scene leaving the vehicle.

A sum of Rs 2,520 in cash, an Aadhaar card and an ATM card along with vegetables and filleted fish were recovered from the deceased. The Aadhaar and ATM cards were instrumental in identifying the dead woman. A team of Bishnupur police arrived at the spot immediately and took away the body of the deceased.
