The first-ever private COVID-19 vaccination centre in the hill districts of Manipur was inaugurated on Tuesday at Samaritan Nursing Home, Bijang, Churachandpur.
Deputy commissioner of Churachandpur Pawan Yadav was the chief guest of the programme while CMO of Churachandpur, Dr Vumchinpau Tonsing and DIO, Dr Paulunmang attended as the guest of honour and functional president respectively.
During the programme, Pawan Yadav said the collective efforts of the government and CVOs have made it possible to open the private COVID-19 vaccination centre to end the hardship faced by the people in the district due to the pandemic. He also appealed to the people to get vaccinated and follow proper SOPs.
Dr Vumchinpau Tonsing said that confidence of the people is built up when the vaccination centre is provided in private hospitals. It is the right time to get vaccinated as no one knows what will happen if the second wave of COVID-19 happens. The private vaccination centre will cater to the need of 50 people per day and priority will be given to adults who are 50 years or above at the cost of Rs 250 per dose as per government rate, he added.
It may be mentioned that Samaritan Nursing Home was established in 2017 to cater to the needs of the suburbs of Churachandpur district. It is a 20 bedded hospital and has a connection with major hospitals in the state capital. So far, around 3,000 people have undergone COVID-19 testing and still continuing.
