India's COVID-19 tally surges to 1,06,89,527 with 12,689 new cases

The death toll reached 1,53,724 with 137 more fatalities.

India's COVID-19 tally on Wednesday surged to 1,06,89,527 with 12,689 new cases, while 13,320 persons recovered from the infection, taking the cumulative recoveries to 1,03,59,305, according to the Union Health Ministry.

The new recoveries pushed the national recovery rate to 96.91 per cent, the ministry stated.

The health ministry stated that the total active caseload stood at 1,76,498 which comprise 1.65 per cent of the total positive cases.

The death toll reached 1,53,724 as 137 more persons succumbed to the infection and the national fatality rate stood at 1.44 per cent, the ministry stated.

According to the ICMR, a total of 19,36,13,120 samples have been tested till January 26 of which 5,50,426 samples were tested on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, a total of 20,29,480 beneficiaries have received the vaccination under the countrywide COVID-19 vaccination exercise till 8 am of January 27.

On Tuesday, 5,671people were vaccinated across 194 sessions, the ministry added.
