Rewben Mashangva, Radhe Devi from Manipur honoured with Padma awards

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Monday and said that Padma awardees have brought qualitative change in the lives of others.

Musician Rewben Mashangva and Radhe Devi from Manipur have been conferred with Padma awards, which is one of the highest civilian awards of the country, announced Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday.

Rewben, a folk musician and singer has helped in the preservation and conservation of the rich traditional music of the Tangkhul Naga in the country through his innovative and unique fusion folk music. He is also known as Guru Rewben Mashangva and father of Naga folk blues.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter on Monday and said that Padma awardees have brought qualitative change in the lives of others.

“We are proud of all those who have been conferred the Padma awards. India cherishes their contribution to the nation and humanity at large. These exceptional individuals from different walks of life have brought qualitative change in the lives of others,” Modi Tweeted.

Padma Awards are conferred in three categories, Vibhusan, Padma and Padma Shri. The awards are given in different disciples/ fields of activities such as art, social work, public affairs, science and engineering, trade and industry, medicine, literature and education, sports, civil service etc., stated a release issued by the Ministry.

Padma Shri is awarded for exceptional and distinguished service whereas Padma Bhusan is for distinguished service of highest order and Padma Shri for distinguished service in any field, it stated. The awards are announced on the occasion of Republic Day every year.

The awards are conferred by the President of India at ceremonial functions which are held at Rashtrapati Bhavan usually around March/ April every year.
