Man shot dead in Moreh, another left injured

United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) claims responsibility

A man was shot dead by unidentified persons while another was left injured near Forest Gate Moreh at around 12.10 pm on Saturday.

As per sources, the deceased has been identified as one Thangminlun Guite ,45, son of Thongul Guite of TL Heijang Veng, Moreh Ward no IX. He received three bullet injuries.

The injured has been identified as one Md Gulbaz, 19, son of Tamijuddin of Kwakta Ward No IV. He received a bullet injury on his right thigh.

Soon after the incident, people at Moreh market started closing their business and parts of the town bore a deserted look. Moreh Police are on high alert to nab the culprits while a case has also been registered.

Meantime, the Hill Tribal Council, Moreh, Kuki Women Union & Human Rights, Moreh, Kuki Students Organisation Moreh Block and Moreh Youth Club strongly condemned the assassination of Thangminlen Guite in a broad daylight by unknown amed assailants. It is highly unfortunate that such an incident has taken place, a joint release stated.

While sharing the sorrow and grief of the bereaved family, the Hill Tribal Council and its sub-ordinate organisations of Moreh condemned the incident in the strongest term and imposed a 24-hour total shutdown within Moreh town from 6 pm of January 23 to 6 pm of January 24, it stated.

“We also demand the perpetrators to issue a clarification within 24 hours and appeal never to repeat such crimes in future,” the joint release stated. It urged the government to take befitting action immediately.

Meanwhile, United Kuki Liberation Front (UKLF) has claimed responsibility for killing Guite.

UKLF clarify that T Guite, DC Tactical headquarters, KNO/KNA was awarded capital punishment for all his crimes against UKLF, said a release signed by joint secretary, UKLF T James. With the report of Intelligent Cell of UKLF, Thangminlen Guite was eliminated on his way to attack UKLF’s location at Forest Gate Moreh today, it stated.

The release stated that T Guite is a government teacher posted at Thingbongphai Govt Aided Primary School, Tengnoupal district, Manipur, while he also held a post in KNA/KNO as deputy commissioner, KNO/KNA Moreh.

 “Also, UKLF would like to tender our apologies to Md Abas and his family members for injuring in today’s incident,” it added.
