Manipur Governor Najma Heptulla on Wednesday virtually inaugurated a new Obstetrics and Gynaecology operation theatre at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal.
Addressing the function as the chief guest, Najma said that among the diverse disciplines of medicine, Obstetrics and Gynaecology occupy a distinctive place as the specialists in these areas cater to the wellbeing of the mother and that of the child.
“The right to being born and once born, the right to life of a child is secured through the skilled and caring hands of the obstetricians and gynaecologists. As such, health professionals in these sections have a pivotal role in guaranteeing the constitutional directive of right to equality and right to life, including the right to health of vast sections of the population,” she stated.
The governor further said that inaugurating an operation theatre for Obstetrics and Gynaecology is also a moment to look at those areas that need immediate attention and to devise innovative ways to withstand various challenges towards enabling an environment for women’s unimpeded access to affordable health services.
While saying that the fraternity of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists has a great responsibility in dealing with all such challenges, she stressed that health professionals should set targets to bring pertinent health issues to the forefront.
Speaking to the media on the sidelines of the function, RIMS director Prof A Shanta said that it is a long-cherished dream for RIMS to open an exclusive operation theatre for Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Shanta further said that health professionals may carry out their service at ease and the patient party will be more convenient with the inauguration of this OT.
