Three caught attempting to supply intoxicants to inmates, land at quarantine centre

Upon enquiry, the suppliers informed that they had earlier made successful delivery of intoxicants to the inmates of the quarantine centre.

In an alarming trend, many cases have been reported from Churachandpur district where outsiders are caught trying to supply liquor and intoxicants to inmates at quarantine centres.   

Most recently at Hermon English School quarantine centre, three people have been caught on Tuesday by the Bungmual village authority which has been guarding the centre. All three have now been admitted at Youth hostel quarantine centre, Churachandpur after consultation with police and medical personnel. 

Upon enquiry, the suppliers informed that they had earlier made successful delivery of intoxicants to the inmates of the quarantine centre as well as at other centers like Sielmat Christian Hr Sec School quarantine centre, Sielmat Churachandpur.

Other incidents have been also reported where inmates allegedly misbehaved with authorities by using abusive languages. The authorities have expressed that it is high time a mechanism be introduced by the district administration to tackle these issues.  

Late in the afternoon today, the CMO accompanied by the District COVID-19 Nodal officer of Churachandpur organised a press meet where they said that they will strictly implement the guidelines issued by the directorate of health service Manipur on May 24.

It was informed that risk assessments teams are in place to check the further spread of coronavirus in Churachandpur.

Meantime, following the reports of inmates breaking all norms at Vimala Raina High School quarantine center, Chiengkonpang, Churachandpur and a video getting viral, another video surfaced in which the inmates apologized to the general public, the CM and district administration on Tuesday.

In the video, one of the inmates said they had been in touch with the authorities and  instructed by the DC ,SP, SDO and CMO of Churachandpur and that they are  “sorry and will  follow the instructions” given to them while promising that such an incident will not happen again. At present, there are 23 inmates at the said centre including 13 females and 10 males who all are all returnees from Delhi.
