The three-day International Symposium on ‘Combating COVID-19 Ethnopharmacology and Traditional Food and Medicine’ and 7th Convention of Society for Ethnopharmacology, India concluded on Saturday with a plenary lecture and oral presentation.
The event was organised by Institute of Bioresources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), Imphal in association with Society for Ethnopharmacology and International Society for Ethnopharmacology. The virtual event was inaugurated by MP OF Lok Sabha, Rajkumar Ranjan on December 17, 2020.
A release said that the plenary lecture began with a welcome note by director of IBSD, Imphal, Prof Pulok Kumar Mukherjee on the topic ‘Developing bioresourecs of NER-Ethnopharmacological perspectives’.
Director of ICMR-NITM, Dr Debprasad Chattopadhyay delivered a lecture on ‘Furin and TMPRSS2 receptor blocking: can it be a potential therapeutic option for Covid-19’; faculty of Allied Health Sciences, University of Sri Jayewardenepura, Nugegoda, Sri Lanka, Dr J Wijayabandara on ‘Immunostimulatory effects by traditional medicines – an attractive and safer alternative to combat COVID-19 virus’; Prof Joykumar Meitei Laishram of Central Agriculture University, Imphal on ‘Genetic studies of fragrance and pericarp colour and molecular markers in Black Scented Rice of Manipur (Chakhao)’; coordinator of SFE-Mysuru Chapter, Department of Pharmacognosy, JSS College of Pharmacy, JSS Academy of Higher Education and Research, Mysuru, Dr K Mruthunjaya on ‘Herbs as a source of platelet enhancers’ and Prof Sanjit Dey of Department of Physiology, Calcutta University, Kolkata on ‘Natural Phytochemicals are Mother Nature’s Weapon Against Diseases’.
Altogether, 50 scientists and research scholars delivered their oral presentations during two sessions and the three-day virtual event concluded with a valedictory programme, the release said.
It further said that a total of 56 speakers from 18 countries and 516 delegates from different parts of the country and abroad attended the event.
