JAC of rape case extends deadline of charge-sheet submission till December 31

The incident of rape and attempt to murder of the woman was happened on November 16.

The Joint Action Committee (JAC) against rape and attempt to murder of a woman from Tangkham Awang Leikai has extended its demand to submit the charge-sheet of the case till December 31, considering the current situation of COVID-19 pandemic.

Addressing the media in a press conference held at Manipur Press Club on Monday, spokesperson of the JAC, Usham Indrakumar said that the JAC had served an ultimatum to the state government on December 6, to submit the charge-sheet of the incident by December 15. However, as per request from the police department, the JAC has resolved to extend the deadline till December 31.

The incident of rape and attempt to murder of the woman was happened on November 16, but still the police have not submitted the charge-sheet. The negligence of the police department has compelled the JAC to serve the ultimatum, he added.

“The police department has stated that the ongoing pandemic has hindered in sending DNA samples of both accused and victim to other states. Therefore, we have decided to extend the deadline for some more days. However, the JAC will intensify the agitations if they fail to submit the charge-sheet on or before December 31,” Indrakumar warned.
