Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker Yummam Khemchand Singh attended the 80th All India Presiding Officers’ Conference held from November 25 to 26 at Kevadia, Gujarat.
The speaker was accompanied by secretary Manipur Legislative Assembly M Ramani, joint secretary (Parliamentary) Rohit Sapam and undersecretary L Dhanashyam Singh in the conference.
An official statement from assembly stated that the conference was held under the theme “Harmonious Coordination between Legislature, Executive and Judiciary, the three pillars of Democracy - key to vibrant Democracy”
The conference which was also held in commemoration of the adoption of Constitution of India began with an inaugural speech by the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, other top dignitaries of the country including Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, governor of Gujarat, Acharya Devvrat, chief minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi and Speakers of several states also attended the inaugural session, it stated.
On November 26, which is also the Constitution day, top dignitaries along with Speakers of several states gathered at the foot of the Statue of Sadar Vallabh Bhai Patel, (Statue of Unity) the first Home Minister of Independent India.
Thereafter the President, Ram Nath Kovind led the joint reading of the Preamble of the Constitution online and made a pledge together.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also participated in the conference online on the concluding day.
Resolutions were also made for upholding the values of the Constitution and also in connection with the occasion and the ceremony concluded with the singing of the National Anthem, it added.
