Manipur footballers career reached a zenith with 43 players featuring in several teams of the Indian Super League 2020-21 season.
This is by far the most footballers represented from a state to the top professional league highlighting the craze for the “beautiful game” from a tiny state like Manipur in the North Eastern Region.
Kerala Blasters and Bengaluru FC have highest intake of seven players each while SC East Bengal have six, Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan FC have four players each, Chennaiyin FC, Jamshedpur FC and FC Goa have 3 players each, Hyderabad FC, North East United FC and Odisha FC with two players.
In Kerala Blasters are Nongdamba Naorem, N. Mahesh Singh (both forward), Jackson Singh, Givson Singh (both midfielders), Denechandra Singh, Seityasen Singh, Sandeep Singh Soraisam (all defenders).
Bengaluru FC have the services of Udanta Singh, Semboi Haokip (both forward), Suresh Singh, Thoi Singh, Ajay Chhetri, Naorem Roshan Singh (all midfielders) and defender Wungngayam Muirang.
SC East Bengal have signed six midfielders including Rohen Singh, Loken Singh, Tomba Meitei, Surchandra Singh, Y.Gopi Singh and W.Angousana Singh.
Tondonba Singh, Mohd.Rakip(both defender) along with Bipin Singh and Bidyananda Singh(both midfielders) are with Mumbai City FC while in ATK Mohun Bagan FC rank have goalkeeper Dheeraj Singh Moirangtham, S. Ranjan Singh, Borish Thangjam (both defender) and midfielder N. Engson Singh.
In Chennaiyin FC are Regan Singh, Remi Aimol (both defenders) and midfielder Thoi Singh while FC Goa have Makan Chote, Seminlen Doungel (both forward) and goalkeeper Mohd Nawaz. As for Jamshedpur FC, they have roped in forward Jackichand Singh, Amarjit Singh and Manisana Singh (both midfielder).
Midfielder Imran Khan and Ningthoinganba Meetei are with North East United FC while Thoiba Singh and L.Premjit Singh (both midfielder) have inked with Odhisa FC. Chinglensana Singh and Mohd. Yasir (both defender) have been roped in by Hyderabad FC.
