Manipur bank employees to support nationwide general strike

The proposed general strike will be a part of agitations held in demand of stringent steps to recover bad bank loans from corporate; universal and assured pension for all; scrapping of NPS; minimum wage of Rs 18,000 to all and holding of price line.

The Bank Employee Federation of India (BEFI), Manipur state unit is supporting the proposed nationwide general strike called by the central trade unions on November 26, announced BEFI state unit on Saturday.

The proposed general strike will be a part of the agitations held in demand of stringent steps to recover bad bank loans from corporate; universal and assured pension for all; scrapping of NPS; minimum wage of Rs 18,000 to all and holding of price line, stated a release issued by BEFI.

It will also be a part of opposing disinvestment and privatisation of PSUs including public sector banks, anti-worker labour code bills, anti-farmer bills and circular of forced premature retirement of government or PSU employees, it added.

It further stated, “BEFI being a socially conscious and committed trade union, has a rich tradition of participating in ‘All India Bank Strike’ including other protest programmes along with the working class of the country, with simultaneously participating with millions of workers and peasants in the ‘National Wide General Strike’ on November 26.”     

The central trade unions consists of Indian National Trade Union Congress, All India Trade Union Congress, Hind Mazdoor Sabha, Centre of Indian Trade Unions, All India United Trade Union Centre, Trade Union Co-ordination Centre, Self-Employed Women’s Association, All India Central Council of Trade Unions, Labour Progressive Federation and United Trade Union Congress.
