As children and all people across the world celebrates the World Children’s Day 2020, Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Z Irani on Friday reiterated the government’s commitment towards ensuring the welfare of children and protecting their rights.
“On World Children’s Day, we reiterate our commitment towards ensuring welfare of our children & protecting their rights. Let us come together and build a better world for our future citizens,” Union Women and Child Development Minister Smriti Z Irani tweeted.
The UNICEF promotes the World Children's Day which is observed on November 20 every year as a “global day of action for children, by children”.
“World Children’s Day is a special moment for bright young minds to speak up, demand their rights and show the world their boundless potential,” the UNICEF tweeted.
However, with the Coronavirus pandemic affecting all countries in the world, children of the world appears to be the worst affected as their y are yet to start learning and building their lives as schools and colleges are out and uncertainty looms over their future.
In India, the Union government reformed the education system after about 35 years and introduced the new National Education Policy keeping in view the concept of new India in the digital era. However, its implementation still poses a challenge to the education sector as a whole in a country which is still largely rural in several aspects, even in urban areas.
As millions of children in the world are now out of school and voices of concern are raised amid the celebration, the UNICEF expressed confidence that together, “we can reimagine a better world”.
“It’s #WorldChildrensDay! As COVID-19 transforms life for us all, UNICEF is on the front line, delivering for children in over 190 countries and territories. Together, we can reimagine a better world #ForEveryChild,” UNICEF tweeted.
The UST UNESCO Club stated in a tweet that the negative effects of the pandemic to the children are immediate and if unaddressed, the effects may last a lifetime.
