Manipur COVID-19 confirmed tally crosses 21000 mark; five more deaths push toll to 207

A total of 254 more people tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur Thursday

As many as five COVID-19 related deaths were reported in Manipur on Thursday, pushing the death toll to 207, while the cumulative confirmed cases crossed 21000 mark with 254 more positive cases, the state health department said.

While three deaths were reported from Imphal West, one death each were from Imphal East and Thoubal on Thursday. The cumulative number of positive cases in the state is now 21,211 (General Population - 18,345 and Central Security Personnel - 2,866), a release from the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Among the new confirmed cases, 228 persons, including 109 males and 119 females are from general population while26 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, the release stated. 

The positive cases from general population are from Imphal West -71, Imphal East- 54, Thoubal - 14, Bishnupur - 17, Kakching -4, Ukhrul - 11, Tamenglong - 24, Churachandpur - 11, Tengnoupal -2, Kangpokpi - 4, Senapati -1, Kamjong -5, Chandel -8 and Jiribam -2. 

All are locals without any significant travel history. They are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, it added.

The number of recovered cases increased to 17,889 after a total of 191 persons were discharged on Thursday and the recovery rate has improved to 84.33 per cent, the state health department said, adding that the number of active cases is 3,115 (General Population - 2,859 and Central Security Personnel - 256).

In view of the surge in COVID-19 cases in the state, a weekly media briefing on Covid-19 is being held at the Directorate of Health Services since November 6 to facilitate effective communication between the Health Department and the public.

Those who are in contact with a COVID-19 positive person have been advised to isolate themselves. Contact Covid Control Room or CMO for testing, the health department stated.
