The All Manipur Tribal Union (AMTU) has urged the state government to put the agenda of Autonomous District Council election in the next cabinet meeting (winter session) as per the agreement made between the All Tribal Students’ Union Manipur (ATSUM) and the state government on November 4 at chief minister’s secretariat.
A release by vice chairman of AMTU, T Ashuhrii Romeo stated that the union will support both physically and morally to the proposed agitation that might be taken up by ATSUM if the state government fails to conduct the ADC election in time.
Demanding timely conduct of ADCs election, ATSUM had earlier proposed 48 hours interstate bandh and ban on construction of national projects in the State on November 5.
However, the union deferred the proposed bandh following state government assurance that ATSUM’s demand for timely conduct of ADC election will be considered immediately in the next cabinet meeting after by-elections.
The union had also said that the agitation is liable to resume if the state government fail to materialise the agreed terms and depending on the outcome of joint meeting of ATSUM and its federating units to be held on November 12.
