The Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC) on Thursday inspected several quarantine centers set up at Bishnupur, Nambol and Oinam in Manipur and said that it will inspect all such centres functioning across the state.
The MHRC chairperson Khaidem Mani said the commission has been monitoring various quarantine centers following the Manipur High Court instruction after recieving complaints from inmates of quarantine centers in the state. The high court instructed to complete the inspection of all quarantine centers in the state by June 10.
Mani said the Commission checked whether the quarantine centers are following the WHO guidelines, Act and containment measures set to prevent COVID-19 spread. He said the MHRC has inspected quarantine centers of Imphal East, Imphal West and Thoubal district.
During the inspection at S Kula Women’s College quarantine center, some of the inmates complained that they are made to wash hands at a common water tap, MHRC said, adding that the inmates also demanded frequent thermal testing as precautionary measures.
To maintain physical distance while washing hands, Ya-All donated a foot-operated hand wash to S Kula Women’s College quarantine center through the MHRC chairperson
