Free health check-up marks International Day for Older Persons in Tamenglong
Older persons who attended the IDOP 2020 in Tamenglong were presented blankets and medicines
The holding of International Day for Older Persons holds significance especially during this Coronavirus times as older people are considered vulnerable to COVID-19 infection. Joining the world, remote Tamenglong district in Manipur observed the day with the theme ‘Pandemic, Do They Change How We Address Age and Ageing’.
The programme was organised by the District Health Society Tamenglong under the National Programme for Health Care of Elderly, at the CMO office complex in Tamenglong town.
Speaking at the programme as function chief guest, Tamenglong chief medical officer Dr Chambo said the programme could not be organised in a larger manner due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He said that as, unlike other diseases, there is no vaccine for COVID-19 till yet, the best way to prevent it is to wear a mask properly, maintain social distancing and frequently wash hands with soap or use sanitizer.
Aged persons should be given maximum care and precautions as they are much vulnerable, he added.
District AIDS Control officer, Dr G Majachunglu and District Immunisation officer, Dr Sunil Kamei attended the programme as chief guest, president and guest of honour respectively.
As a token of respect and honour to the old aged persons that attended the programme, one blanket each was presented to them. Free health check-up and free medicines were also provided to all the old aged persons as a part of the programme.
