The People Democratic Front (PDF) is all set to take up the issue of unemployment of educated youth with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, especially after 5,000 to 6,000 youths have returned to Meghalaya leaving their jobs due to the pandemic.
“I will take it up with the chief minister on how to utilise their experience and to accommodate them,” said party president and Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Banteidor Lyngdoh on Thursday.
“This is a serious issue as many experienced youths in many spheres have returned to our state,” he said, adding that it will be a loss if the state government is unable to utilise their expertise.
On Wednesday, Nongkrem MLA and Chairman of the State Planning Board also expressed concern on the growing unemployment rate multiplied by the returnees after the pandemic struck the country and stressed on the need of a Skill Development University, as one of the many solutions to the problem.
The chairman had also expressed fears that frustration might force the youths to pick-up arms, if something is not done to address the issue.
