An ATM operator has been arrested in connection with embezzlement of money to the tune of Rs 26,287,000 from eight ATMs.
The accused has been identified as Heikham Ajit, 21, son of H Kumar of Keirao Bitra Makha Leikai. The Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West has remanded him to police custody for three days.
After arresting him, Imphal City police produced him before the court along with a prayer of seven days police custody. However the court gave three days police custody till October 6.
A complainant, Janmajoy Chakroborty, who is a branch manager (operation) of Writer Business Service Private Limited, had lodged a complaint over losing Rs 26,287,000 from eight ATMs located at Lamsang Bazar, Subhiksha Complex IGAR, Group Centre Langjing CRPF, Singjamei Bazar, near Vishal, Govt Polytechnic Imphal, Leikai Imphal AP Road.
The company deployed four employees for cash replenishment at Imphal West location. The four employees are identified as (L) Sanjit Singh Huidrom, Naoshekpam Premananda, Sinam Naresh and Heikham Ajit. All four are responsible for loading the case in the ATMs and securing the password of the ATMs, it is said.
Police had arrested Naoshekpam Premananda and Sinam Naresh and they are in police custody under section 379/409/420/120-B/34 of the IPC. While, Sanjit Singh had committed suicide on September 17.
On interrogation, Heikham Ajit admitted the charges levelled against him that he along with (L) Sanjit committed the crime under the supervision of Kongkham Brojen Meitei, a location in-charge of Manipur.
