Meghalaya: COVID-19 death toll rises to 47; 101 more test positive

The state's total COVID-19 tally is 5,463 of which 1,476 are active cases and 3,940 recovered cases.

Meghalaya's COVID-19 death toll rose to 47 as six more patients, including three cancer patients died in the past two days, official sources said. 

A total of 101 new positive cases were recorded in a span of a day, pushing the state's tally to 5,463 of which 1,476 are active cases and 3,940 recovered cases.

Of the new positive cases, 54 are from East Khasi Hills, 37 from West Garo Hills, four from West Jaintia Hills, two each from Ri Bhoi and South West Garo Hills district and one positive case each from East Jaintia Hills and East Garo Hills, the sources said.

Meanwhile, 72 persons, including 54 (52 civilians and two armed and paramilitary forces) cases from East Khasi Hills, nine from West Garo Hills, four from East Jaintia Hills, three from East Garo Hills and two from Ri Bhoi, recovered from the viral infection in a span of 24 hours.

State Health Services Director Dr Aman Warr said that swab samples of 1,48,298 persons were sent for testing out of which 1,42,835 were returned negative.
