Slow Loris released in Manipur's Ukhrul

DFO of Ukhrul, Shanngam Shaliwo said the animal was found on the highway between Shirui and Langdang which is about 12km from Ukhrul district headquarter.

Forest department of Ukhrul released a rescued slow loris into the forest between Shirui and Mapum range on September 23.
DFO of Ukhrul, Shanngam Shaliwo said the animal was found on the highway between Shirui and Langdang which is about 12km from Ukhrul district headquarter.

The slow loris was rescued by members of Chiko Adventure and was handed over to the Forest department on September 23 and after necessary procedure, the department released the animal back to its natural habitat, he added.

He also said that the officers of Ukhrul District Forest Division drove about 30km and safely released the animal at the forest of Shirui Mapum Range.It was a male slow loris weighing around 2.5 kilogram, said the DFO.

It may be mentioned that sighting of slow loris at such proximity to human settlement is rare and it has become rarer to find the animal because of their diminishing number due to deforestation and hunting.
