Manipur's COVID-19 death toll rose to 59 with two more deaths reported in a span of 24 hours and the total number of confirmed cases surged beyond 9000 as 116 more people tested positive for the viral infection on Monday, the state health department said.
The two COVID-19 victims were from Imphal West, one 75 years old and the other 53 years old. Both were females. They expired at RIMS and JNIMS respectively due to COVID-19 and co-morbid conditions, according to an official data.
Of the 116 new cases, 87 were from general population in which four persons were returnees from other states and the rest 83 are locals with no travel history. As many as 39 from Imphal East, two from Imphal West, two from Churachandpur, one from Senapati, one from Noney, five from Tamenglong, five from Kakching, 22 from Thoubal, three from Bishnupur and seven from Kangpokpi were confirmed to be covid-19 positive on Monday. The cumulative number of covid-19 positive cases is 9,010 and the cumulative number of active cases is 2,113.
In the past twenty-four hours, 71 persons were discharged and the recovery rate is 75.89 per cent. The cumulative number of recovered persons is 6,838.

Advisory to public: If you were in contact with a Covid positive person, self-isolate immediately, contact Covid Control Room or district CMO for testing, the state health department stated in the release.
