Manipur puts on hold all recruitment processes as COVID-19 hits economy

The government memorandum said recruitment process shall be resumed/initiated only with specific permission from the department of personnel for any emergency recruitment.

The state government has put on hold all the ongoing recruitment processes being undertaken in all the departments with immediate effect from Saturday.

According to an office memorandum issued by chief secretary, Rajesh Kumar, the move to put on hold all the recruitment processes was made in view of the adverse impact of COVID-19 on the state’s economy and the precarious financial position of the state.

Daily wages, contract employment, muster roll, direct recruitment under taken by all the departments, including agencies, societies, undertakings, boards, corporations among others shall come under the purview of the government order.

Stating that written test examinations and viva–voce will also be put on hold, the memorandum said recruitment process shall be resumed/initiated only with specific permission from the department of personnel for any emergency recruitment.

Manipur on Sunday reported two more deaths due to COVID-19 and the death toll in the state rose to 57. The state also reported 170 new COVID-19 positive cases, including two personnel of the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), pushing the total number of positive cases in the state to 8,894, the state health department said.

The two COVID-19 victims are from Imphal East, one 67 years old and the other 53 years old. Both males. They expired at JNIMS Covid Care Centre, the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated on Sunday in its 5 pm release. Of the 170 new cases, 168 persons were from general population in which five were returnees from other states and the rest 163 are locals with travel history.

As many as 98 from Imphal West, 15  from Tamenglong, 21 Imphal East, 10 from Thoubal, one from Kamjong, five from Churachandpur, eight from Bishnupur, 3 from Senapati, one from Noney, and six from Kangpokpi were confirmed to be positive for COVID-19 on Sunday. The cumulative number of active cases is 2,070.

According to official data, 44 persons were discharged on Sunday. The cumulative number of recovered cases is 6,767 and the recovery rate is 76.08 per cent.

The public can also avail online teleconsultation by government doctors from home between 10 am and 3 pm every day except Sunday by downloading eSanjeevaniOPD app at Google Paly Store or visit the website - www.esanjeevani.opd.in.release.

Advisory to public: If you were in contact with a Covid positive person, self-isolate immediately, contact Covid Control Room or district CMO for testing, the state health department stated in the release.
