Thang-Ta to be developed as traditional sports under Khelo India Scheme

The traditional Thang-Ta martial art has been included as one of the disciplines among the 14 traditional sports for grassroots development under Khelo India Scheme approved by the Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry.

The Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur while appreciating the Central Government moves felt that the Department of Youth Affairs and Sports, Manipur must cater to the scheme with full sincerity.

Under the scheme, 1000 Khelo India centres will be established for the 14 traditional sports all over the country.

As per the announcement, the Huyel Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur said that the department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Manipur has identified three sites for Khelo India Centre in Imphal West and Bishnupur district as per the proposal put up respective District Youth Affairs & Sports Office.

“This is welcoming news and we greatly appreciate the hard work and empathy rendered by YAS officials of Imphal West and Bishnupur. But, at the same we are quite disheartened on learning that officials of DYASO Thoubal and Imphal East are not conducive to the opening of grassroots centres said,” Heikrujam Cha Babu, who is the secretary of Huyen Langlon Thang-Ta Association, Manipur.

He appealed to the higher authority of the department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Manipur to see that Khelo India grassroots centres of Thang-Ta are opened at Imphal East, Thoubal and rest of the districts, if feasible.
