The Joint Co-Ordination Committee on Wildlife and Biodiversity, Manipur on Friday stated that all the tree saplings which were planted at Yairipok Bishnunaha to Charangpat Canal road stretch in June amid the lockdown are healthy and growing.
JCCWB Yairipok branch has been organising a five-day drive for maintaining the planted saplings by cleaning and removing weeds from the foot of the plants since Thursday, stated a release.
JCCWB by joining hands with the members of its Yairipok branch along with Manipur Police Department, Forest department, clubs and organisations of Yairipok area had carried out a mass tree plantation programme on June 21 during COVID-19 lockdown, it stated. Luckily, all the planted tree saplings survived and flourishing at this time, added the release.
It further stated that president JCCWB Yairipok Branch, Toijam Thomas Luwang expressed happiness over the success of the plantation drive they conducted. He also assured that the team will leave no stone unturned in helping the plants to survive. “He also requested the public to safeguard the trees, keeping in mind that they are our best friends,” it added.
