Court revives closed attempt to murder case; accused persons arrested

The incident reportedly happened in May, 2012 but the police submitted the final report on March 2013, stating that no incriminating articles could be recovered from examination.

A case involving a murder attempt against a woman, for which the final report was submitted and closed on 2013 by police, was revived by the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West on Friday.

The incident reportedly happened in May, 2012 but the police submitted the final report on March 2013, stating that no incriminating articles could be recovered from examination.

However, the Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West revived the case on the ground that there has been a new light which could lead to the identification and arrest of the unknown culprits of the case.

After the case was revived, the police arrested two accused culprits namely, Arambam Manju Singh , 33, son of (L) A Dhanajoy of Sagolband Kangabam Leikai Imphal West district and Laitonjam Premjit alias Gopal Singh, 34, son of (L) L Indramani Singh of Keishamthong Elangbam Leikai Leirak Achouba, Imphal West district.

Police prayed 10 days police custody before the court which granted custody of six days police till August 31.

A complaint lodged by the victim’s husband Mayanglambam Khelendro stated that on May 29, 2012 around 5:30 pm, his wife Mayanglambam (o) Geetabala Devi of Thangmeiband Hijam Dewan Leikai was all alone with his baby daughter at home when three unknown persons came in one red Honda Activa and attempted to forcefully give an injection.

At that point of time, he was playing housie (tambola) in a nearby location. All of a sudden, they heard a loud noise and they hurriedly came outside the road and found his wife shouting and crying to the three unknown persons, the complaint mentioned. Khelendro stated that the perpetrators allegedly attempted to silence his wife on gunpoint while they tied her hands and told her not to shout.

She managed to remove the tap from her mouth and started shouting for help. She also stated that she had been injected with some injection forcefully but managed to open her mouth. In the meantime, the three unknown culprits drove away at full speed. He took his wife to RIMS casualty for medical examination. The sample was also given to Babina Clinic for a test.

As per police preliminary interrogation, both the accused persons have admitted that they know some important facts on the case.
