Manipur COVID-19 tally rises to 4,198; 86 more test positive

Of the new cases, 71 persons, including 36 males and 35 females, are from general population and 15 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel.

Manipur’s COVID-19 tally on Friday rose to 4,198 as 86 more persons tested positive for the novel coronavirus, official sources said.

As COVID-19 cases continue to surge in the state, additional director and spokesperson of the state health department Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang reminded the people to safeguard oneself from COVID-19 infection. 

“The most common means of COVID-19 spread is when the infected droplets from an infected person enter into another person's nose, mouth and eyes. Using face mask, goggles and avoidance of touching face often and maintenance of social distancing are adequate means of protecting self from infection,” Dr Mangang stated.

The state's tally included 1,825 active cases and 13 deaths till date. Of the new cases, 71 persons, including 36 males and 35 females, are from general population and 15 are Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) personnel, a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

The new general positive cases include 28 from Imphal West, eight from Thoubal, 13 from Imphal East, nine from Churachandpur, six from Bishnupur, three each from Noney and Ukhrul and one from Kakching, it stated.

Of the general population, 13, nine from Churachandpur, three from Bishnupur and one from Kakching are returnees from other states while the rest 59 are locals without any significant travel history, Dr Sasheekumar Mangang said.

The new positive cases are being shifted to the Covid Care facilities. All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Mangang stated.

Of the total 4,198 positive cases, 3,248 are from the general population and 950 are Central Security personnel.

Meanwhile, 65 persons were discharged after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. With it, the cumulative number of discharged cases is 2,360, including 2,168 from the general population and 192 CAPF personnel. The recovery rate is 56.21 per cent, the release stated.
