An awareness drive was organised to make Manipuri language as the associate official language of the Assam government.
With an objective to make Manipuri language as the associate official language of the Assam government, Nongin, an NGO, organised an awareness campaign on Saturday at Sribar Sara Leikai, Cachar.
The campaign was attended by Nongin president Sapam Babahan; retired ACS, Kangabam Santee Kumar; president of Manipuri Youths' Front of Assam (MYFA), Seram Herajit and social activists, L Thoiba Singha and Ema Sanathoi as presidium members.
Seram Herajit said that there is a strong need to preserve Manipuri language as Assam government has neglected its importance and challenged the existence of Manipuri community in the state of Assam.
L Thoiba Singha pointed out that Manipuri language can only be protected in Assam when all the Manipuris are united.
Kangabam Santee Kumar said that a strong movement is necessary to make Manipuri language an associate official language of Assam otherwise the language will fade away for the future generations. Every Manipuri organisation based in Assam needs to join hands together for this matter, he added.
The campaign was also attended by former secretary general, All Assam Manipuri Students’ Union (AAMSU), Birendra Singha.
