The Joint Students Coordination Committee (JSCC) has opposed the state government order to allow additional chief secretary Dr. Rajesh to hold the charge of chief secretary Manipur.

Reacting to a statement issued by the Under Secretary to the Governor of Manipur on Saturday, the JSCC appealed to the state government to revoke its order and to appoint a qualified native IAS officer as the chief secretary.

A release by the committee stated that the state government has acted against the interest of the people by appointing a non-native officer as the chief secretary in-charge despite the demand made by the people of Manipur to appoint a native chief secretary.

The governments have victimised different native officers by using them to serve their interest rather than giving them a post according to their capacity. Lack of development in the administration of the state for many years can be assumed as a result of appointing non-native officers at the high level government post, the release added.

The Joint Students Coordination Committee includes the All Manipur Students Union, the Manipur Students Federation, the Kangleipak Students Association and the Students Union of Kangleipak.

Student organisations in the state, including the All Tribal Students Union Manipur, the All Naga Student Association Manipur, the Democratic Student Association Manipur, and the Apunba Imagi Maheirol Singpanglup had also been demanding the state government to appoint a native officer as the chief secretary of Manipur.

According to the student bodies, they had signed a memorandum of understanding with the then OSD to the chief minister Sumant Singh in June, 2018 to give due consideration to a competent native IAS officer for the post of chief secretary.
