Water level rises in Wangjing River; locals fear further downpour may cause flood

The overflowing water from the Tentha Makhas stream has already flooded farms of more than 50 paris (local unit) in Utaobi and Pishakmacha at Tentha village.

Following incessant rainfall, the Wangjing River in Thoubal district has risen to an alarming level. The locals are apprehensive that the river may overflow and cause flood if the rain continues.

The water level rose suddenly on Thursday around 4 pm, causing panic among the villagers in Tentha. This has made the farmers become more apprehensive that the river may breach at certain areas and their farms may be flooded.

The overflowing water from the Tentha Makhas stream has already flooded farms of more than 50 paris (local unit) in Utaobi and Pishakmacha at Tentha village.

On July 23, members of 9 Tentha zila parishad, Khagembam Manishang and pradhan of Tentha gram panchayat, Naorem Pradeep helped in lowering the flood level in Tentha Makha stream by raising the ground level using four dipper vehicles and an excavator. However, the condition of the rest of the places is still unpredictable, they said.
