They had it all worked out

The colours and the clout

The baby would lack nothing

She was six months heavy

When the world came to a stop!

Three months on, nothingness

Was all that hung in the emptiness

The savings all dried up

Then she knew if they stayed

They would not stand a chance.

On a blistering afternoon, it came free

By the highway under a laburnum tree

Came was the first cry of a life.

She knew she could not rest

If the little one was to live.

Two hours or more after the baby

On her feet again, with a daisy

She cried out to the sky

And walked another hundred miles.

Then came a rumble behind her…

The wheels came to a stop

No, there was not a prop

Once a cry and a breath

Under the laburnum tree

There’d been a thunder from the Throne

They’d come to take them home.
