Lions Club plants tree saplings in Kakching

The plantation drive was being carried out with a purpose of saving the environment and to mark the ‘71st Van Mahotsav’ week.

Members of Lions Club of Kakching Greater planted at least 30 saplings of different rare varieties on Sunday.  The team planted the saplings along the Kakching-Pallel inter village road locally known as Louyai Lambi.

The plantation drive was being carried out with a purpose of saving the environment and to mark the ‘71st Van Mahotsav’ week, they said.

Speaking at the site, the newly elected president of Lions Club of Kakching Greater N Munal Meitei told the media that Lions Club is the largest non-profit organisation providing humanitarian services in the world so far. ‘We Serve’ is the motto of this World Champion Organisation, he said.

Munal Meitei who is also serving as the range forest officer at Kakching Range Office further stated that among the various humanitarian services being rendered by Lions Club of International, the clubs are leading  towards ‘four services’ by keeping them in the forefront namely to regain eyesight, to foster peace, to save  environment and to feed the hungry, Munal said. 

The event witnessed the presence of acting president of Lions Club of Kakching Greater, Utamkumar Naorem; secretary, M Rajkumar; secretary, M Magho; treasurer N Premanada and other members.

Meanwhile, Wildlife Biodiversity and Conservation Committee Yairipok Branch has kicked off a three days cleanliness drive programme under the theme, ‘Save Environment, Live Neat and Clean’ from Sunday.

The event which was organised under the aegis of WBCC Manipur witnessed its cleanliness drive along the median and roadside of Yairipok-Pechi road.

While speaking to the media, president of WBCC Yairipok branch Toijam Thomas stated that it is the need of the hour for all to live neat and clean during the pandemic.
