India records highest ever single day spike with ​​32,695 new COVID-19 cases

Of the 9,68,876 confirmed positive cases, 6,12,814 patients have been cured, the Union Health Ministry said.

​India's total number of COVID-19 positive cases has surged to 9,68,876 with the highest ever single day spike of ​​32,695 new coronavirus cases, the Health and Family Welfare Ministry said on Thursday.

Of the nationwide tally, 6,12,814  patients have been cured and active cases stand at 3,31,146 so far.

​On Wednesday, HRD ​Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and ​Minister of ​State (HRD) Sanjay Dhotre launched a low-cost COVID-19 test developed by ​the ​Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi.

According to the minister's statement on Twitter​, the new test kit​ is the world's most affordable probe free RT-PCR based COVID-19 diagnostic kit.

Meanwhile in the Northeast, Manipur reported 28 new COVID-19 positive cases on Wednesday, taking the toll to 1,700 positive cases in the state. Of the new cases, one is a security personnel while three others are volunteers of the COVID-19 task force.

Assam has registered the highest number of Coronavirus positive cases in the region. On Thursday, the Government of Assam confirmed a total of 19,754 positive cases of COVID-19, including 12,888 recoveries, three migrations and 48 deaths in the state.
