Chief Medical Officer of Bishnupur Dr L Gojendra on Sunday expressed disappointment over the portrayal of healthcare workers at Community Health Centre, Nambol in a bad light on social media and some media reports.
A statement issued by the CMO said that a road traffic accident victim, accompanied by those involved in the accident, walked in at the CHC Nambol on Friday at 4.40 pm.
The CMO stated that the accident victim was immediately taken to the Minor OT Room by the duty doctor and nursing staff.
“She could not step up on the examination table and was laid down on the floor, requesting to be allowed to take rest. All efforts by the women staff including doctor, nurses and attendant to lift her heavy body on the trolley failed,” Dr Gonejdra stated.
The CMO said that a man came in and took pictures of the victim lying on the floor and being attended by the duty nurse while the medical team was looking out for help. Instead of offering help, he left the hospital after taking the photos, Dr Gonejdra stated.
The photograph was uploaded on Facebook against all norms, the CMO adding the photographer neither took permission from the hospital authority nor the patient to take the pictures.
“He could have helped the staff of the severely handicapped CHC in giving decent care. The malicious news item was also published in some local dailies the next day without bothering to verify the alleged negligence or otherwise, the presence of the medical staff who never left the side of the victim,” Dr Gojendra contended in the statement.
As per the statement, the patient was given first aid, IV drip and given Tetanus Toxoid injection and was immediately referred to RIMS as she was showing signs of severe head injury. The security personal who came to register the case helped in transporting the victim to RIMS, the CMO stated.
He remarked that all the healthcare workers are risking their lives and health in these challenging times. The attitude of finding faults instead of helping demoralizes the overworked health staff, he stated.
The CMO also appealed to all the citizens of Bishnupur to help the health centres in all possible ways as many key personnel have been utilised at Covid Care Centres, screening centres and quarantine centres over and above their duty at the health centres due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
