UYPC Uripok rode off with the Championship title beating Black Watch Polo Club, Babupara by 8-6 goals in the final of the 1st Athokpam Gandhar@German Memorial State Level Open Polo Tournament 2024 organised by CHPC at Ibudhou Marjing Polo Complex, Heingang.
UYPC riders galloped hard in the first chukker with Th Nongpoknganba getting two goals while S Saolin got one to tighten the grip in the match. Black Watch trailed with rider P Ojit fetching a goal.
However, in the second chukker, Black Watch put up a brave fight, swinging their mallet to perfection as P Ojit scored two goals, while L Atangba made one to gain 4-3 goals.
As the saddle got hotter, riders spurt up their gallops and manage to get one goal each, to provide more anxious moments in the game. S Saolin shot home for UYPC, while S Bonbon fetched one for Black Watch to display 5-4 goals in the third chukker.
The game changer came in the fourth chukker as UYPC pulled up their remaining energy with Th Nongpoknganba connecting two goals, while S Saolin and Alex Aheibam fetched one goal each. Despite the best effort from Black Watch, Th Jacon could put in just one goal for the defeat.
UPYC Uripok collected a cash prize of Rs 30,000 along with the Champion trophy, while Black Watch PC received a cash prize of Rs 20,000 with the Runners Up trophy. Black Watch PC rider L Atangba Singh claimed the ‘Best Scorer’ title with a cash prize of rupees 5000 while IMKHUKAL(A) Heingang bagged the ‘Best Discipline Team’ title.
