May 3 declared ‘Black Day of Manipuri history’

FOCS president Th Manihar appealed to all Manipuris to hoist black flags on their vehicles and hoist the same at their respective residences on the significant day.

The Federation of Civil Societies Organisation (FOCS) along with 13 other CSOs on Wednesday declared May 3 as ‘Manipur gi Puwarida Amamba Numit’ and called upon the people to observe the same on May 3 every year.

Speaking to the media at Manipur Women’s Federation office, Imphal, FOCS president Th Manihar highlighted that various programmes and events will be organised in accordance with the observation.

“The conflict which has engulfed the state since last year will remain a dark chapter in Manipur’s history. Several people have lost their lives while thousands are still in relief camps with nowhere to go,” he said.

He maintained that FOCS, along with 13 other CSOs, resolved to observe the day in remembrance of all the sufferings and destruction which has unfolded since May, 2023.

He noted that the observation will remind the coming generation to tread cautiously and recognise the true enemies of Manipur.
