Manipur Governor Anusuiya Uikey on Thursday visited College of Food Technology, Central Agricultural University (CAU), Lamphelpat, Imphal, wherein she inaugurated a newly developed Liquid Bio-Fertiliser Production Unit, which aimed to produce environment friendly liquid biofertilizers for use in the University and the public.
The Governor also opened a Food Museum of Northeast states in the college campus where food items from the seven Northeastern states namely Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura were being displayed, the Raj Bhavan stated in a release. The museum is being developed as a component of Agro-ecotourism Park in the college campus within the university, it stated.
Later, Uikey launched an aerial footage of ‘Transformation of Wetland to Farming Land at Central Farm by Central Agricultural University, Imphal’ on the occasion, the Raj Bhavan said. She also visited the Food Processing Pilot Plant of College of Food Technology, Lamphelpat, Imphal and interacted with students and entrepreneurs, it stated.
Speaking to the media, Governor Uikey highlighted key roles taken by CAU in transforming the agricultural sector by introducing different techniques in agriculture and allied activities, it said. She noted that different farming systems introduced by using bio-fertilisers will be helpful to the people, it added.
Lauding the efforts made by CAU Vice Chancellor, Anupam Mishra and his team, she asserted that by opening the food museum as a component of agro-tourism, it will attract tourists from the north eastern states, the Raj Bhavan said.
Director of Instruction & Dean, Prof. Indira Sarangthem; Registrar, CAU, Tilak R Sharma, officials and students of the University attended the event, it added.
