Manipur: Congress worker’s home attacked

Unknown miscreants fired three rounds of gunshot at the residence of former president of Khurai Block Congress Committee in Imphal East.

Ahead of the 18th Lok Sabha Parliamentary to be held on Friday, unknown miscreants fired three rounds of gunshot at the residence of former president of Khurai Block Congress Committee located at Kangla Sangomshang in Imphal East on Wednesday night.

Condemning the incident and firing in congested residential areas, the Coordinating Committee, Kangla Sangomshang staged a one-day sit-in-protest at the community hall of Kangla Sangomshang, Imphal East on Thursday.

As per reports, some unknown armed miscreants came in an SUV around 9:30 pm on Wednesday night, broke into the main gate of the residence of Kumabam Sanajaoba, 70, of Kangla Sangomshang, Imphal East under the jurisdiction of Lamlai police station. He is the former president of Khurai Block Congress Committee.

The armed miscreants reportedly called Sanajaoba to come out of his house and when Sanajaoba did not come out, they fired three rounds in the air in his courtyard following which they immediately fled from the spot.

Decrying the incident and firing in residential areas, the Coordinating Committee, Kangla Sangomshang demonstrated the protest on Thursday.

Speaking on the sideline of the protest, co-convenor of the committee, Thounaojam ongbi Bijayaluxmi said the locals strongly condemned the firing incident in residential areas. She said any misunderstandings could be solved on a negotiating table instead of threatening the public with arms.

She appealed not to repeat similar incidents in the future.

With the coming of the 18th Lok Sabha elections, concerned DCs had issued an order for submission of arms as preventive measures.

Besides, a large number of arms, ammunition and other explosives that were snatched by the public from police stations are still at large and yet to be recovered.
