The Zeliangrong community living in Delhi and NCR held its Zeliangrong Meet 2023 at the Talkatora Indoor Stadium, Delhi.
Organised by the Zeliangrong Students' Union (ZSUD) and the Zeliangrong Welfare Association Delhi (ZWAD), the meet was held under the theme "Zeliangrong Solidarity: Strengthening Unity, Culture and Progress".
The event, graced by Nagaland deputy chief minister TR Zeliang as the chief guest, witnessed a significant gathering of about 2,500 people. Alyson Abonmai, "The Gospel Cowboy", who is also an intending candidate for MP outer Manipur election and Johnny Ruangmei, CEO NSDMA, Government of Nagaland, attended the event as special guest and special invitee respectively.
Addressing the event as the chief guest, TR Zeliang emphasised the importance of unity among the Zeliangrong people and its political rights. He also reiterated the need to remember and cherish the legacy of two iconic figures from the Zeliangrong community, Haipou Jadonang and Rani Gaidinliu.
Meanwhile, the Zeliangrong Meet 2023, Delhi Organizing Committee extended its gratitude for the remarkable success of the event. The committee credited the success of the events to the volunteers, donors and sponsors, distinguished guests, dignitaries, attendees and well wishers.
"The success of the Zeliangrong Meet 2023, Delhi was the result of countless hours of hard work, coordination, and dedication... This event was not only a celebration of our heritage but also a significant step towards strengthening the bonds that tie us together as a community. The success of the Zeliangrong Meet 2023, Delhi is a testament to our collective efforts and aspirations," the committee said in a statement.
Several artistes from the Zeliangrong community, including KL Pamei, Alamle Heraang, Kady Thiumai, Leander Kamson, Nagui KC, GMP the band enthralled the audience with their renditions.
Other dignitaries who attended the event included MLA S Toiho yeptho, MLA; A Pongshi Phom, MLA from Nagaland and Jyoti Kalash, additional chief secretary & chief resident commissioner, Nagaland house Delhi, Government of Nagaland; Wennei Koynak, joint resident commissioner, Nagaland House Delhi, Government of Nagaland. and Vikramjit Bannerjee, additional solicitor general of India, among others.
