The Zeliangrong Civil organisation (ZCOs) comprising of Zeliangrong Youth Front, Manipur State Unit, Zeliangrong Students’ Union, Manipur and Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur State Unit held a consultative meeting on Saturday, where in discussions were held on various issues of Manipur.
The meeting discussed the recent recommendation of the Hill Areas Committee (HAC) to Government of Manipur in reference to Cabinet decision to constitute 20 ADC members out of which 18 members to be selected from among the former ADC members/expert in local self governmentt/eminent personalities/intellectuals and two members to be nominated by Government as a temporary arrangement until the ADC election, stated a release.
It condemned that the same is completely unconstitutional and arbitrary and further demanded the HAC to withdraw its recommendation forthwith.
Discussions on other matters including ‘no objection certificate’ and ‘Letter of Authority’ issued by one of the Naga National Government NSCN (I-M) for development of Zeilad Wildlife Sanctuary were also held, it mentioned.
It further decried authorising Kilonser, Zeilad Region, Longchaibi Gonmei, to deal with the company that does the assessing exploration seismic survey D-2 & D-3 oil reserve in Zeilad Zeliangrong Region without the knowledge and consent of the concerned people.
It lamented that the Zeliangrong people have allegedly outrightly rejected the oil exploration activities right from the beginning since the Geological Survey of India attempted to carry out Geochemical mapping operation and seismic data operation in Tamenglong and Noney Districts.
The Naga National Government continuing Naga political movement to safeguard and protect the land and resources of Naga people failed to seek the opinion of the people prior to issuance of the certificate is clear violation and dishonour the rights of the land owners, it accused.
It appealed to the state government as well as Naga Political group to be more cautious in matters pertaining to Zeliangrong in particular, Nagas and tribal people in general.
