Universal Mother’s Organisation (UMO) and the Federation of Civil Society Organisations (FOCS), Manipur have strongly condemned the paramilitary forces’ directive to shift the MPA camps of Pambei-led UNLF from Pukhao and Nongshum hill ranges in Imphal East.

Speaking to the media at the organisation office in Imphal, UMO president Sorojini Moirangthem stated that the Marjing battalion of MPA stationed in Pukhao and Nongshum ranges had been protecting the lives and properties of people in the region since their deployment.

“Appealed had been made to central forces to implement stringent security measures and stop the violent onslaught of armed Kuki miscreants but they failed,” she said.

She maintained that all central paramilitary forces deployed in Manipur should be removed if they are unable to protect lives and properties in Manipur.

She further condemned the state and central government’s inaction in Churachandpur even when vital state institutions were being targetted in the district.

“The SP and DC offices were set ablaze but if the same incident had occurred in the valley, the security response would have been very much different,” she said.

She further demanded central investigation agencies to showcase the same zeal in investigating the whereabouts of arms in Kuki dominated areas as they are doing in the valley.

She lambasted the state authorities for diverting the state issue onto infrastructure development in Manipur.

“What is the use of their development mantra when they are scrambling to protect their people and state?” she asked.

Sorojini further stated that all those who demanded seperate administration from Manipur were the enemies of the Manipuri people.

Meanwhile , FOCS said that the people will deal with the Assam rifles if they continue to put pressure on the members. It accused the AR of trying to dominate the Meitei villages in the area by removing the base camp which had been defending villages from the Kuki militants.

In a release, Nerish Mangang, secretary Information and public relations, FOCS, Manipur, questioned if the AR will be able to defend the villages and the Meitei houses in the peripheral areas from being burnt down by Kuki militants after the village volunteers left their base camps.

The AR and CAPF could not stop the illegal immigrants from burning down the DC office and SP Office Churachandpur, it stated.

It also questioned the valid reason for trying to flush out the village volunteers from their base camps. It recalled that the chin kuki narco terrorists had killed nine village volunteers in a single day during an attack launched by them at Khamenlok under the jurisdiction of Saikul police station.
