There are no buffer zones: Manipur Police

Security forces are deployed in some fringe, vulnerable and sensitive areas of districts to prevent unwanted incidents and movement of miscreants, the Manipur Police stated

Police Control Room, Manipur Police on Monday clarified that “buffer zones” do not exist, responding to the circulation of news reporting on the existence of “buffer zones” in between some inter-district areas of hill and valley districts of Manipur.

However, security forces are deployed in some fringe, vulnerable and sensitive areas of districts to prevent unwanted incidents and movement of miscreants, stated a release.
During the last 24 hours, the situation in the tate was under control, it said.

Search operations and area domination were conducted by security forces in the fringe and vulnerable areas of hill and valley districts, it mentioned.

Three improvised long range mortars (pompi), one .303 rifle, two 12 bore guns, 25 live round ammunitions, one Chinese radio set, two 36 hand grenades without detonator from Sabungkhok Khunao-Twichin ridge, Imphal East were seized during the search operations, it further said.

It mentioned that the movement of 100 and 208 vehicles along NH-37 and NH-2 respectively with essential items has been ensured. Strict security measures are taken up in all vulnerable locations and security convoy is provided in sensitive stretches in order to ensure free and safe movement of the vehicles, it stated.

It further stated that a total of 124 Nakas/ Checkpoints were installed in different Districts of Manipur, both in the hill and the valley, and Police detained 79 persons in connection with violations in different districts of the state.

It appealed to general public not to believe in rumours and be aware of false videos. Any circulations of unfounded videos etc. may be confirmed from the rumour free number 9233522822 of Central Control room, it stated.

It also appealed to the public to return the looted arms, ammunition and explosives to the police or nearest security forces immediately.
