Decrying the alleged attack on Thadou leader Michael Lamjathang Haokip’s residence by suspected Kuki militants on Saturday, the Thadou Community International (TCI) asserted that such is an act of terrorism and assault against Thadou community and humanity as a whole.
TCI, in a release on Sunday, expressed shock over the gruesome, violent attack and burning down of Michael Lamjathang’s home at Peniel village in Churachandpur at around 12.20 pm on Saturday during the Kuki rally that took place in the area.
It alleged that the attacks were carried out by suspected armed Kuki militants, in what appears to be a coordinated show of their power and evil supremacist agenda, just 5 days after the last attack on August 25. All these coordinated and targeted attacks should be treated as terrorism and dealt with accordingly, it stated.
It expressed discontentment that no punitive action has been taken against the perpetrators involved in previous attacks against Michael. It questioned if the local law enforcement officials are allegedly complicit with the perpetrators of the crime or whether they are overruled by the criminals.
TCI asserted that the attack on Michal Lamjathang is an assault on the whole Thadou community and India’s democracy and civilisation. It urged the government authorities to take real and swift actions without any further delay to bring the perpetrators to justice and to prevent further violence.
It expressed solidarity with Michael and stated that the Thadou, as a community, continue to experience the onslaught of Kuki supremacists. It also urged all Thadous to remain calm, nevertheless stand united and strong against such challenges. It further advised the Kuki brethren to refrain from anti-Thadou Kuki supremacist agendas.
