The National Foundation for India, New Delhi in collaboration with Integrated Rural Development Service Organisation Wangjing, Thoubal district Manipur organised a one-day District Level Consultation on Sustainable Development Goals 2030 at Wangbal Community hall on Friday.
Giving her keynote address, chief functionary IRDSO/ FC NFI field office, Thoubal Nonibala Narengbam stated at the United Nations Headquarter New York in September 2015, 150 leaders adopted and discussed the sustainable development agenda that will pave the way to a sustainable future.
In January 2010, the UN SDG was launched and these Goals will affect all the countries in the world with the aim to end all forms of poverty, fight inequalities and tackle climate change, while ensuring that ‘No One is Left Behind’, Nonibala added.
She stated that these goals will guide all governments, NGOs and communities over the next 15 years, hoping to create a sustainable world for all by the year 2030.
India ranks 135 out of 146 in Global Gender Gap Index and The Global Gender Report 2022 says it will now take 132 years to reach gender parity, Iceland (90.8 per cent) leading the global ranking, she maintained.
Attending at the consultation as president, National Foundation for India, New Delhi Nonibala Narengbam said that (NFI) intends to promote civil society and youth engagement in three Northeast states of India (Assam, Manipur, Nagaland) so that models of participation and inclusive development are designed and implemented at the grassroots around SDGs and peace building. In the race to achieve SDG targets, certain states and regions such as Northeast India have fallen behind, she added.
The focus is on promoting youth voices for peace, and in building capacities of civil society on conflict resolution and local development, she said.
The event was held in the presence of MLA, Khangabok AC O Surjakumar as chief guest, chairperson, Manipur state commission for women Salam Ulka as guest of honour.
During the technical session, program officer, SCPS Mala Lisam, CMO, Thoubal district Dr Y Nokul and EO, Thoubal Municipal Council H Pradeepkumar attended as resource persons.
The consultation was also attended by youth club members, local women leaders, media fraternity,women leaders of political fraternity, ASHAS, Anganwadi Workers, representatives of Community Based Organisations, Police Personnel, Para legal Volunteers, officials of Social
Welfare department, members of DCPU, NGO fraternity and others .
