Hundreds of students in Manipur came forward on their own and generously contributed a collective fund to lighten the burden of medical expenses borne by families of students who are victims of physical assault by the central and state forces.
Many students sustained severe injuries during the protest held against the abduction and the cold-blooded murder of 17-year-old Linthoingambi Hijam and 20-year-old Phijam Hemanjit by Kuki narco-terrorists, stated a release on Tuesday.
A community of students comprising about 3,000 of them from Comet School, Sika Higher Secondary School, Brilliance School, Xtra Edge School, St Stephen Higher Secondary School, Imprint Science Academy, Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School, ACI (Advanced Coaching Institute), Kindergarten Montessori School, Human Resource Development Academy (HRD) and Competitive Success Academy consolidated contributions amounting to Rs. 1,55,750, which they made at their respective schools, it stated.
The amount was handed over to four injured students on October 16 and 20, it mentioned.
The students are Kishan Loitongbam from Yairipok who sustained critical injury with 40 pellets in his arm; Jotin Wahengbam from Lilong Arapti, who has blunt trauma in the liver; Iriraj Sougrakpam from Uripok Achom Leikai, who sustained critical injury in his leg and Thokchom Lemenson from Phoubakchou Awang Leikai who sustained injuries on his chest and leg, it added.
The students of the 11 schools also thanked those who came forward without affiliation or persuasion to help the injured students and asserted that all the contributions and campaigns were done to help those in need, the release said. It further stated that the student community will be dissolved as soon as the crisis ends.
