Students donate blood in Imphal

"The awareness and blood donation programme is also a wakeup call for the youths to stand against drugs".

Several students donated blood at an awarenss and blood donation camp held at DM College of Science in Imphal on Thursday.

Sponsored by the State Blood Cell, NHM Manipur, the Regular Voluntary Blood Donors Group Manipur, Humanity for Society and E-Pao Tengbang Lup Manipur on Thursday organised the awareness cum blood donation camp. It was supported by the Blood Centre JNIMS and DM College of Science.

Several individuals and students of the DM College donated a unit of blood each.

Speaking to the media, secretary of Humanity for Society, Pangabam Jayananda, said such blood donation is conducted four times every year by the three organisations since the past few years.

It is a fact that the number of youths engaging in drug use are increasing rapidly in the state, which is indeed a great threat, he said, adding that the awareness programme is also a wakeup call for the youths to stand against drugs.

Pointing out that regular blood donation makes a person healthy and also helps in saving many precious lives, he appealed to the people of the state to be a part of the routine blood donation camp organised by the three organisations.

Women-led Sanitation Campaign

The three weeks long ‘Women led Sanitation Campaign 2023’ held by Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Council under Swachh Bharat Mission on March 10 as part of ‘Three Weeks Swachhotsav 2023’ concluded on Thursday.

The main objectives of the campaign include making Lilong Town Garbage Free Town (GFT), making Manipur Garbage Free State (GFS) and making India Garbage Free Country (GFC).

The closing event witnessed the presence of Manipur State Minority Commission chairperson Em Anwar Hussain as chief guest, Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Council caretaker vice-chairperson Md Islaur Rahman as president and the Morning Bell, Manipur publisher Laimayum Bashanta Sharma as the guest of honour.

The event was also attended by caretaker councillors of Lilong (Thoubal) MC, former WDC members, Students Organisation, Local Clubs, SHGS and ALF within the jurisdiction of Lilong (Thoubal) Municipal Council.

Em Anwar Hussain said that the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan Mission was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for a clean India. And as such, maintaining a clean Manipur and India should be our target, he added.

As a part of the event, MIS Expert SBM Urban Tarnajit Okram talked on the topic ‘Women in Sanitation Activities’. Resource persons of the programme, CMM SMID Chingkham Boboy and Pebam Krishnakumari also delivered speeches on ‘Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) and its benefits’.

It can be mentioned that several cleanliness activities were conducted in various regions of Lilong ( Thoubal) Municipal Council during the three weeks cleanliness campaign.

Manipur Shakti observes ‘Shakti Sthapana Diwas’

‘Shakti Sthapana Diwas’ was observed by Manipur Shakti in the presence of its president Daisy Angom on Thursday and the Shakti Prerna award  was conferred to Asha Gupta during the ceremony.

A statement by Manipur Shakti stated that the Shakti Prerna award was conferred to Asha Gupta for 2022-2023 in the field of Science Communication and Women Empowerment. Asha Gupta delivered a speech on ‘Man and Nature’, it informed. She mentioned the mindful application of resources for sustainable development and emphasized the role of women, it continued.

It maintained that Manipur Shakti secretary Beeteswari Khangembam delivered the welcome speech in which she emphasized the objective of the Shakti collective, followed by the vote of thanks by joint secretary of Shakti Sophia Moirangthem.

It stated that the Swa Shakti award 2021-2022 was conferred to Maibam Nganthoi Chanu for her enthusiasm and achievement in a science subject. As Nganthoi was busy with her examination, the award was received by her mother on her behalf, it added.

Legal awareness campaign in Tamenglong

A one-day legal awareness campaign ‘Know your rights’ was held at Tamenglong district headquarters on Thursday in an effort to raise awareness on legal rights of the people.

Social worker Aon kinsin Gangmei urged people of Tamenglong to encourage their children to learn about legal matters.

Advocate Khalter Khampa spoke on the topic, ‘the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013’.

Advocate Daniel Kamsuan spoke on the Wild Life (Protection) Act, 1972 while advocate KT Playson spoke on the Schedule Tribes and other Traditional Rights.

Advocate Kalangaipou Riamei (general secretary DBAT) spoke about the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) and its benefits.

Villagers from the proposed protected forest/reserve forest areas shared their grievances on the impending issues of land acquisition for wildlife protection etc.They said that they have been depending on forest products and it has been their livelihood since time immemorial.

The resource persons also identified some loopholes during the process of acquiring land by the authorities.

The campaign was organised by social worker Akinsin Gangmei in collaboration with Persistent Responsible and Motivation (PRM).
