Newly elected MP of Inner Manipur Akoijam Bimol decried the recent scam in the NEET UG Examination 2024, calling it a hallmark of bad governance.

Speaking to the media on Friday during a protest against “NEET-UG 2024 Irregularities” at Congress Bhawan in Imphal, Bimol emphasised the detrimental impact of these recurring issues on students.

He criticised the Modi government for its arbitrary handling of the examination process. “It is not the first time; such scams have happened many times before,” Bimol stated.

“The government is indeed playing with the lives of these young people who have struggled, studied, and worked so hard,” he added.

The protest saw the participation of former chief minister O Ibobi, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President K Meghachandra, and Congress Working Committee (CWC) member Gaikhangam, alongside other MPCC office bearers.

The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), Manipur also launched a signature campaign titled “Students Nyay” during the protest, alleging that there has been no clean sweep in the NEET exam under the Modi government.

The campaign aims to garner support for students affected by the irregularities and to pressurise the government into taking corrective action.

Bimol expressed his frustration with the government’s negligence.

“As the government has not taken note of these lacunas and not taken care of it, we are protesting,” he added.

The protestors demanded immediate intervention and reforms to ensure the integrity of the examination process.
